Week 6

I have been following the mantra of starting small and slowly. It seems hard for me to get into the groove after my holidays. For the past 2 weeks, I have been doing mostly body weight exercises and long runs.

I had switched to long distance running again because of my upcoming half marathon at September. I only got one more month to get myself into condition. The previous half marathon that I did was a night run. This time round, my half marathon will start at the morning (5.15am) and I hope to avoid the sunrise. The heat can easily take away a huge chunk of your energy.

It seems like I am not getting much results. I did not lose as much weight as I expected. In fact, my weight is stagnant at the weighing scale.

I felt that this time round, I might have bitten off more than I could chew. I am trying to tackle too many fitness goals at once. Right now I am participating every 3 months time in a long distance run and currently I am preparing for my half and full marathon at September and December respectively.

I thought that I could merge my 16 weeks fitness challenge with my preparation for my marathon but it does not seem so. My mind seems to define these two goals separately and sometimes the amount of workouts I need to do can be overwhelming. This causes me to procrastinate.

There are many things that I need to sort out and I think I need to draw out a more clearly defined plan for my remaining 7 weeks. I really want to have the results to show for at the end of the 16 weeks and in order to do so, I need to have a really solid plan in place plus lots of implementation.

Ah… It’s The Murphy’s Law Again

I got sun burned last weekend due to a beach volleyball session. I screwed up by not taking a sun block with me and I got some painful burns on my back, arms and shoulders. This means I could not proceed on with my body weight exercises for the next few days. I will carry out my plan B that is to jog and this is much better than not doing anything at all.

I believe I need to wait for a few days before the pain goes off. So right now, I will focus on jogging instead of doing any weight training. This time round, my 16 weeks challenge is not progressing as smoothly as the previous one. However, I am not going to give up any time soon. I will keep at it for the whole 16 weeks and see how much I can achieve by that time.

If any of you have started your own 16 weeks challenge, do share with me your progress. I would love to know more about it. I look forward to your comments. Last but not least, I really appreciate your support by subscribing to my blog and reading my articles. Thanks everyone!

I found this inspiring video from Facebook recently. I am inspired by Derek Redmond’s never give up attitude. Even though he suffered a setback during the race, he never gave up and still managed to cross over the finishing line.

At the later part of the video, there are mentions about God. Religion is not the key point in this article. What I want to focus on in this article is the attitude of not giving up.

Where Is Your Finishing Line?

Do you know where your finishing line is? When I say finishing line, I don’t only mean the finishing line that you find on the race track. Your finishing line is any goals and dreams that you have. It can be the financial part of your life, social part, career, health or anything that you want to achieve.

To reach your finishing line, you have to know where it is and what the rewards are. Don’t ever make the mistake of running the wrong race. If you are racing for something that you do not want, you will never get it because you lack the passion and enthusiasm to push you through.

There are people who have worked hard and spent years to climb the corporate ladder. However, at the end of the road, they found out they had wasted 30 to 40 years chasing after things that they don’t want. You do not want that to happen to you. Know your race and your due rewards before racing.

Even If You Know Your Finishing Line, 80% Of You Don’t Achieve It – Do You Know Why?

I may sound contradicting. Especially when you refer to the blaring article title that I wrote for this post – “How you can reach the finishing line without fail”. The “100% Guaranteed” at the front of the title does not help in this case.

The difficult truth in life is that most people will not reach their finishing line. They dropped short. They allow others to bring them down. They think they are not good enough. They have doubts. They simply gave up.

The harsh reality and hardships awaiting them during their race to their finishing line is just too difficult for them to endure. The short cut here is to simply give up and walk away. They give excuses why they can’t achieve instead of focusing on how they can achieve. They settle for mediocrity instead of trying to achieve excellence. (If you have not pick up your copy of The Personal Excellence Ebook written by Celestine Chua, you can get your copy here.)

People give up at moment they faced hardships. Keep in mind what I have to say here. Anything that is hard is worth accomplishing.

If running a marathon is easy, nobody will join one. If climbing Mount Everest is easy, nobody will climb to the top and think it is an achievement. What is easy gives you little sense of accomplishment. No want will pay you big bucks or give you much respect if you know how to ride your cute little tricycle. But it will be a totally different story if you know how to fly a plane and know which button to press to land the plane. If nobody respect that, the passengers in the plane definitely will.

Key point here. Your rewards are directly proportional to the level of difficulty of task. No one in the right mind will pay the janitor the same amount of money they pay to the CEO. If you want something better, do something that is harder to accomplish. People will respect you for this and you will get your due rewards.

This is a great quote from Jim Rohn.

Don’t wish it is easy, wish you were better
~Jim Rohn

How To Reach Your Finishing Line

On your way to the finishing line, there will always be obstacles. There will be disappointments, doubts, overwhelming difficulties, and any possible screw-ups that you can imagine. These are bound to happen. However, you don’t live your life fearing these obstacles and stay at the same spot. You live with the attitude that you know there will be obstacles but you will still keep on moving forward no matter what.

If you screwed up, you learn from your mistakes. If things don’t work, you try another way. Use the Ultimate Success Formula. Keep trying, trying and trying until you figure out how to get what you want. The last thing on your mind is to quit. You only lose the game at the moment you decide to quit.

Michael Jordan took 7 years before he won his 1st NBA championship final. He went on to win 6 championship, 6 times NBA finals MVP, featured 14 times in the NBA all stars team out of his 17 years career. Doesn’t look too shabby, am I right? (You can read this article that I had wrote previously – 7 Lessons We Can Learn From Michael Jordan)

He was cut out of high school basketball and his coach thinks he lacks the height to play good basketball. What if he quits when he met all these obstacles?

If you are reading my blog now, I assume that you want to unleash your maximum potential and achieve your desired outcomes in life (if not, why are you here?). To reach your finishing line, you need to be prepared for the obstacles that I had mentioned…

Do you have problem getting off your couch and taking action?

If you do, do not worry too much about it because most people do. Everyone have his or her own down time. By down time, I mean slumps when you are just not productive at all (spending hours in front of your TV, remember?).

I decided to write this article as this is what I am experiencing right now. My recent vacation at Taiwan broke my momentum for my exercise regime. This can easily slide into a few weeks of inaction but I will share with you the methods that I used to get myself into taking action again.

5 Kick Ass Productivity Tips That Will Help You Take Massive Action Now

1. Start Small To Help Build Your Momentum

When you find it hard to get started in any of your tasks, start small or break down your tasks. The problem with inaction is due to how the negative impression of the tasks we portray in our mind. If we see a task as overwhelming and boring, most likely we will not get around doing it.

If you are able to make a task appear smaller as it is (definitely possible and it is easy to do so), getting off your couch to get into action will be a much more pleasant experience.

Let us look at an example. Let say if you want to start a diet plan or exercise regime. However, the problem is you have already failed countless of times trying to exercise consistently. Some people may just think they are not suited for exercising and give up before even trying.

They are definitely capable of exercising consistently but they just do not have the right strategies and mindset to do it effortlessly. One of the key is to start small.

Most people are overly enthusiastic when they have a new idea they want to implement. It may be a new exercise routine or writing a new book. Nevertheless, when you start something new with a high level of enthusiasm, most likely you will bite off more than you could chew. This is a problem. Your own enthusiasm will kill your own plan prematurely (or you).

Most people find it hard to start small when they are overly enthusiastic over their new plans. They want to achieve the impossible of exercising 6 days a week (hitting the gym everyday) when they can hardly perform 10 pushups. What do you think will happen to the poor chap when he tries to exercise 6 days a week? Most probably, he will fail badly and he will think that he just isn’t a gym person. This will deal a huge blow to his self-belief and he/she may be reluctant to start exercising again.

When you have a new plan to improve any areas of your life, start small. You may be highly enthusiastic but you will need to build up momentum to help you make it into a sustainable activity. You will not lose weight overnight if you try to bench press 200 lbs immediately. However, losing weight gradually is much more easier when you exercise consistently for 10 minutes a day and build up from there. Start small, create momentum and let it roll. Think long-term.

2. Bring People Into Your Plan

I have talked about how having your own mastermind group and accountability partners can help you be more productive. If you still do not have one, you should start to look for it now. Some good places to start are MeetUp.com and Steve Pavlina’s Forum

A mastermind group can help you to stay positive and focus throughout the journey of pursuing your goals. It can also help to serve as an accountability group to help you stay accountable to your actions.

Starting a blog would be a good idea too. I use this blog to share my goals and challenges with you. Sharing my personal goals and challenges with you can help me to stay accountable and further motivates me into taking action.

You can also tell your new goals or plan to your family and friends. Find those whom you know will not laugh at your goals and plans for personal development. Tell them about what you want to achieve and the steps you will take to achieve it. Do not be surprised by how much more you can accomplished when you have an accountability partner or a mastermind group.

3. Tracking Your Progress

If you do not know how much you had progressed, you will not be motivated to continue. If you try to write a book and you complete one page every single day, you will be more motivated to keep on writing. For any plan that you have, you need to track the numbers.

If you want to lose weight, track your fat percentages or your weight. If you want to save money now, track your spending and savings in your bank account every month. Seeing your progress is a great motivation.

You can capture your progress in a physical note book, apps like Secret Diary on the iPhone (any journal apps), Google Docs, create a blog or online journal at Blogger or Penzu.

4. Create Habits To Tackle Your Tasks Effortlessly

It is hard to act on something that is new to you. Just like it is hard to start exercising if you haven’t exercised in a while. To ensure that you can perform whatever tasks with the least amount of effort, you need to cultivate a habit. You will need to refer back to point number 1 again; start small.

When you start small (example; start by exercising 10 minutes per day), it is almost impossible for you to skip doing something this easy. If you fail to exercise for 10 minutes a day, cut back and start at 5 minutes a day (Its just 10 minutes!). Make a task so easy to accomplish so that it will be hard for you to miss it.

Keep working on your task everyday (for 21 days) and try to turn it into a habit. It takes around 21 days to create a new habit.

When you cultivated a new habit, you do not need to use much willpower to force yourself into action. Taking action will be much more easier from now on.

5. Reward Yourself

Everybody loves to pamper himself or herself. Find a reward for yourself when you kept up with your tasks. It may be something that you enjoy doing or small gifts that you like. If you wrote 10 pages of your new book, celebrate your mini milestone with a small reward that you like. Just be sure not to be counter intuitive in choosing your rewards. You do not want to reward yourself with chocolates right after each workout that you had completed.

Be frugal with your mini rewards and make yourself earn it. I sometimes reward myself with my favorite food or go for a small shopping trip when I reached my mini milestone for my goals.

These are my 5 productivity tips that can help you get your ass off the couch and get the essentials done. How about you? What do you do to help motivate yourself to get off the couch and start taking action? I look forward to your comments below.

The purpose of publishing my challenge is to keep myself accountable and inspire others into taking action. I will also tell the truth about my progress and I will share with you all the difficulties I faced during this 16 weeks.

Last week is not a great week for me. I went to Taiwan for a 5 days vacation and my diet and exercise regime crashed totally. This broke my momentum.

I thought that I will be able to restrain myself from gorging all the delicious snacks I can find in Taiwan but I failed miserably. I had broken every rules of dieting by eating processed food (rice, bread etc), fried foods and foods that have high sugar content. Did I mention over eating?

Murphy’s Law

Murphy’s Law states that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. It is somehow true for me in this scenario. I remember that I had read something similar in the book Body For Life by Bill Philips. He had mentioned that there would be time when things just do not go according to plan.

Now I know what he is talking about.

I am at week 7 of my fitness challenge and I can tell you that I am not feeling confident of showing you the results at the end of 16 weeks. There are serious doubts in my mind. However, I will not quit now and I will keep on moving forward regardless of what happened.

What Have I Learned And Introducing You The “System Reset”

One important point that I have picked up is life always surprises you when you are least prepared. Nevertheless, one cannot control the little surprises life have in store for you. All you can do is to handle it in the best possible way you can think of.

You should also be able to do a “system reset” to help you keep on moving forward. There is a high tendency to beat yourself up after screwing up. This action does not help you to move any where towards your goal. Performing a “system reset” will help to recalibrate your mindset into a right frame of mind so that you can keep on moving towards your goal.

To perform a system reset, you need to be aware of your thoughts. Negative thoughts tend to surface when you made mistakes. These thoughts act like an anchor and weigh you down. The first thing you need to do is to stop thinking about them and replace them with other thoughts.

The Art Of Distraction And The Art Of Focusing On Positive Outcomes

It is hard to stop yourself thinking about negative thoughts. I make it easier by using the art of distraction and the art of focusing on positive outcomes.

One way that I normally use to distract myself away from negative thoughts includes listening to personal development audio books. (Anthony Robbins, Jim Rohn etc) Audio books created by powerful personal development teachers contain great ideas. I will be so busying absorbing the great ideas from the material and I will be so distracted away from my negative thoughts.

It helps to focus on positive outcomes. I believe most of you have your desired outcomes or goals in place. You should write it on a piece of paper. Most of you may have done these 2 steps but there is one more step that you need to take.

It is visualizing your goals in pictures.

It is hard to generate intense emotion when I am reading my goals on a piece of paper. It makes a lot of difference when I form mental images of my goals. The intensity of my emotion is much stronger and the desire to achieve is also intensified.

You can do a little experiment here. Write the word “lemon” on a piece of paper and read it. Observe whether you salivate more. There shouldn’t be much difference.

Now we will use a different approach. Think about the lemon. Use images and make it as vivid as possible. Think about how the lemon will smell. Grab the lemon in your mind, cut it into half and visualize the taste on your tongue. Think about how sour the lemon juice is.

Your body will believe that the lemon that you visualized is real and hence you salivate more when you form the mental pictures of lemon.

Back to the art of focusing on positive outcomes. If you are reading your goals from a piece of paper, I don’t think it will generate much emotion. You can self motivate yourself by visualizing your goals using mental images. You can use a vision board to help you in this process.

By using the art of distraction and focusing on positive outcomes, you can drastically reduce the amount of time you spent thinking about negative thoughts. Your thoughts generate emotion and your emotion determines your action.

When you feel good about yourself, you tend to take more action. When you feel bad and negative about yourself, you tend to procrastinate and idle.

Once you are able to perform a system reset by learning how to focus on positive outcomes and distract yourselves away from negativity, you will be able to keep on moving forward towards your goals without fail.

In order to achieve my desired results in this 16 weeks time, I had decided to pack my own meals last week. I prepare three of my meals to bring to work every day and consume them at every 2 – 3 hours interval.

I think this is a great decision because my lunch with my colleagues always consists of eating processed food (carbs like white rice and noodles) which is making it difficult for me to lose weight. I believe eating these processed foods can slow down my progress and may even stop me from achieving my desired results.

Some Of My Fears

I thought it would be hard to stop going for lunch with my colleagues. Some of the things I fear are…

Colleagues think that I am a weirdo

Endless question about why am I packing my own lunch

Colleagues sympathizing me

People think that I am too poor to afford lunch

In fact, making this decision does not turn out to be that difficult. I was focusing on my desired outcome and I just decided to abandon my colleagues and eat my own lunch at my cubicle for the sake of getting my desired results.

My colleagues may find me a weirdo but I do not really care as long I get my results at the end of the day. There are still lots of questions from caring colleagues as they were puzzled by my decision to skip lunch. I just tell them honestly that I am on a diet to shed the extra pounds. In fact, more people talked to me than usual, asking me about why I skip my lunch etc. Therefore, I guess that skipping my lunch improves my networking ability.

Most of the fears are illusion in the mind. I find that most of them do not really matter when I finally decide to take the action to skip going for lunch with my colleagues. This is the same for most situations when fear tries to prevent you from doing something. The surprising thing is most of your fear will be so insignificant when you decided to take the action. Most of the fears you have in your mind doesn’t happen anyway.

Conclusion

Eating my own packed lunch is giving me some great results. The last week I had mentioned that I had gained a bit of weight. I lost it back when I started to eat my own healthy lunch. I also feel better now because all my meals are clean. One meal does make a difference.

Gymboss Interval Timer Review

As promised last week, I am going to write a review on the Gymboss interval timer that I am using for my workouts.

My workouts consist of circuit and interval trainings. Circuit training consists of doing a set of exercise in a specific amount of time. There are no set numbers of repetitions in each of the exercises. All you need to do is to do as much repetition as you can in that fix amount of time.

I prefer doing circuit trainings as compared to doing exercises with fix repetitions. Our body can get used to the fix amount of repetitions and this can delay muscle growth and weight loss. Circuit trainings is the solution to this problem and it keeps your intensity level high during your workouts.

I used to use my digital watch or iPhone to time myself (45 seconds exercise, 15 seconds rest) when I am doing my circuit training. However, I find it too troublesome to keep an eye on my stopwatch and press the start and stop button for every 45 seconds.

Doing this affects the quality of my workout. It is impossible to be 100% focused and concentrate on your exercises when you are worrying about when are you going to hit the stop button at the 45 seconds interval.

Gymboss Comes Into Play

This gadget comes in handy for situation like this. Gymboss Interval Timer has 3 main settings; auto, auto with number of times to repeat and manual setting.

Auto: It will continue to beep for the amount of time that you set. (example:beep every 10 seconds until you stop it)

Auto with number of times to repeat: 2 timings are involved here. For example; beep at the 45 seconds (you can change the timing) mark and beep again at the 15 seconds mark.

Manual: Instead of auto restarting itself when it reaches the time that you set, you need to press the start button to restart the countdown again.

Gymboss Interval Timer is hardy and it can take any of your rigorous workouts. It runs on a AAA battery and it has a clip that you can use to clip the it on your workout gear.

Check out more about Gymboss Interval Timer in this video that I did.

The Gymboss Interval Timer Is Suitable For…

If you are currently doing interval training or circuit training (or you want to start one soon which I recommend if you want to lose weight), the Gymboss Interval Timer is highly recommended.

However if you are doing a fix amount of repetitions for your workouts or long distance running, this gadget isn’t for you.

If you decide that Gymboss Interval Timer is the right gadget for you to get fit and healthy now, you can get yours by clicking here.

I had written this article right after my workout.

Show me the numbers and I will know how you fare in life.

Numbers play an important part in our personal development journey. Jim Rohn introduced this concept to me. I got this concept from one of his audio books and I would say this is a pretty simple yet powerful concept.

If you look closely in your life, you can put many things into numbers. Usually the numbers tell you the harsh facts and reality.

Show me the number in your bank account and the number will show how well you are doing financially.

Show me the number on your pay check and I will know how well you are doing in your career.

Show me the number on your weighing scale and I will know whether you desperately need to slog it out on the treadmill.

Show me the percentage of growth or loss in your investment portfolio and I will know whether you need to pick up more books about investing.

Numbers don’t lie. They show you the reality.

Do You Even Know Where You Stand Right Now?

To improve yourself, you need to know how you are doing currently. If you do not know where you stand, it is impossible for you to make your desired progress. You need a benchmark to start with. Without knowing where you are now, it is impossible to track your progress. This isn’t a very smart thing to do.

You need to have the self-awareness to know where you are right now. The numbers in your life can help greatly in identifying where you are right now.

Some people think they are currently better than where they are right now, which may be false. Some people think they are worse off than where they are right now, which also may be false. How many times did you see yourself in the mirror, saw the fats around your tummy, and think that you are still doing ok? I admit, I tried to lie to myself before I weigh myself on the scale.

Numbers do not lie and they help in this case. The numbers provide you with the cold and harsh fact on where you are right now.

Learn How To Use Your Numbers To Raise Your Standard

Your numbers are here to help you but most people do not bother to use it. Keeping track of your numbers (finance, paycheck, weight, hours spent with love ones, portfolio, investment, number of books read) will allow you to know which area of your life needs improvement.

There are a few ways you can start tracking your numbers now. It is time to create your own excel spreadsheet to help you measure your progress in life.

I use Google Docs for creating my spreadsheets and here are some numbers that I keep track.

Number of books I read in a year (to ensure that I am growing and learning more about my field of expertise)

Income (to ensure that I am progressing smoothly towards achieving my desired income)

Expenses (to keep my expenses in check)

Portfolio of stocks (make sure that I am investing in sound companies to help me accumulate wealth)

You have to put the numbers in place and start analyzing whether you are progressing in that area of your life. You can start to track your weight, the number of books you read in a year or your personal finance. Whatever area of your life you want to make improvement on, record it down in your own spreadsheet.

Example

If you want to make improvement in your financial area of your life, you may want to set up an income and expenses account in a spreadsheet. It does not have to be complicated. All you need is just a column that includes the month of the year, a column for your monthly income and another for monthly expenses.

At the end of every month, add up all the expenses that you had made for the month. I use an iPhone app, iXpenselt, to keep track of my daily expenditures. On the other hand, you can collect the physical receipts, jot down in notebooks or use gadgets to help record of all your expenditures. Just choose a method that works for you. Once you had totaled up your expenses, record it in your personal finance spreadsheet.

Do the same for your income too. Record everything at the end of the month. Try to make it as fun as possible. You can name the file as “Financial Mastery”, “Financial Genius In Making”, “Journey To Financial Freedom” or whatever sounds nice to you. These titles can entice you more to update on it and they definitely sound much better than “Personal Record Of Income and Expenses”.

If your goal is to increase your wealth, you need to ensure that your income is increasing and your expenses are not more than your income. By recording your monthly income and expenses in a spreadsheet, it helps you to have a bird eye view of the situation you are in now.

Are you spending more than you spend? Are you saving enough? Are you doing anything to increase your income to your desired level?

You can answer all these questions by just looking at your finance spreadsheet that you had created.

Start Tracking Your Numbers And See The Improvement

Making improvements in life is not difficult. Whatever you want to improve upon, just improve the numbers. When you start to track the numbers in your life, it makes it much easier for you to come out with strategies to make improvement. The strategy is simple, improve the numbers and you will see better results.

If you want to excel in your field, instead of reading one book on your field of expertise per year, you can start to read 2 books per month. If you want to achieve financial freedom, you can either make the effort to increase your income or reduce your expenses. Alternatively, if you want to increase your sales income, you can increase the number of prospects you see in a day and increase the ratio of conversion.

So if you want to start making some serious progress in your life, start playing the numbers game, track your numbers and take the necessary steps to make significant improvements in life.

Week 4 Update

I have a confession to make.

I missed 2 of my workouts this week. 2 interval trainings to be exact. It has been raining for quite a few days this week and it makes it harder for me to grab my kit and go out for my training. Okay, I know it sounds like some excuses and yes, I admit it is. It is still possible for me to go out there to climb the stairs or find other alternatives but I didn’t really make the effort to do so.

On the brighter side, I completed 4 days of workouts. I must give myself a pat on the back for completing my first month of training.

What I Am Doing Now

I started doing circuit trainings this week.

Example of circuit training:

- Do as much push up as I can in 45 seconds and rest 15 seconds. Repeat.

My resistance workout right now consists of 8 exercises. I will go through all the 8 exercises in the above format (45 seconds followed by 15 seconds rest) and repeat them for a total of 3 sets.

Circuit training is a great way to ensure growth and prevent my body from plateauing. I am currently using my Gymboss Timer to time myself. I will show you a video on how to use it on my post on Friday.

My Weighing Scale Is Fooling Around With Me

I am facing one problem right now. Instead of losing weight, I am gaining weight! I am somewhat shocked to see that my weight is increasing instead of decreasing. However, I did my research and I found out some possibilities:

I am gaining more muscles that weighs more than fat.

I am taking in too much calories that caused me to gain weight.

I do not know the reason that caused my weight gain, hence I decided to get a caliper to measure my body fat percentage. Using the caliper is a much more accurate way to check the progress as compared to the weighing scale because it normal to gain weight when you gain more muscles. This can be rather misleading.

It is demoralizing to see yourself gaining weight when you are supposed to lose weight. A caliper helps to get a clearer picture of what is happening so I can decide whether I need to make any changes to my plan.

Fitness Tip Of The Week: Fit Your Workout Into Your Schedule First

If you fail to fit your workout into your schedule first, you tend to miss it.

Keep this in mind. I missed most of the workouts when I had slotted them last in my schedule. This means that I left my workout to be the last task for the day. I am usually rather jaded by then and motivation itself isn’t enough to get me to start exercising.

In order to complete your work out successfully, prepare your environment and schedule to make it easy for you to get into action. Dress in your work out gear so that it is easy for you to start your exercises. Make your workout one of the most important tasks in your day.

If you have the mindset that your workout is an important task that you must complete, you tend to complete it. Make your work out one of the most important tasks for the day and schedule it as the first task for the day.

It is hard to miss a work out when you scheduled it as the first thing you need to do. Wake up earlier if you need to. Working out in the morning on an empty stomach is also more effective as your body will draw the energy from your fats when it has no energy to burn.

Before I leave, I have one question for you. How do you keep yourself motivated to exercise when you don’t feel like doing it? Share with us in the comment section below and I will talk to you over there.

I am still pursuing personal growth in my life and I am still far from my desired standards. I immerse myself in books, audio tapes and blogs of successful personnel so that I can gain the knowledge that they have that made them successful in the first place.

I believe the differences between someone who is successful and someone who is not are the things that they know. Successful people definitely know something that others do not know and that is what made them successful in the first place.

I Need To Share This With You

I picked up something very valuable and I believe I need to share this with you.

Think about what needs to be done, not whether you can achieve it or not.

Most people doubt themselves before they even attempt to try. This is why many people fail to live up to the high standards that they are capable of. They failed before they even reach the starting line.

When I am in my unproductive state, I always doubt my capability instead of focusing what needs to be done. This causes me to stay stuck at a certain level and slow down my progress.

But if I flick the switch in my mind and think about what needs to be done and proceed on to do it, I usually can achieve rather incredible results.

Move Towards Your Goal At The Speed Of Light

Your doubts can kill your dream. Giving up before you even reach the starting line is regrettable.

What we focus on can affect how we feel and act. When we focus on the negative, it is natural to feel depressed. On the other side, when we focus on the positive, we tend to feel up beat and enthusiastic.

In order to move towards your goal at the speed of light, you need to learn how to focus on the right things. Nobody can focus on the positive side of things every time. But if you are able to focus on the right things 60% to 70% of the time, you are on track to achieving great results.

If you are experiencing plateau in your personal growth or whatever areas in your life, it is time to stop and reflect. It is good to ask questions at times like this and one great question to ask yourself is, “Am I focusing on what needs to be done or whether can I do it or not?”

My Example

Let me share with you an example. I know I need to be doing more marketing with my blog (things that need to be done). There are tons of methods to do this. It can be writing more guest post, commenting on other blogs, participate in forums or even creating a free ebook to share around with others.

I know that if I am able to do the tasks that I had mentioned above, achieving my goal of 2000 blog subscribers at the end of the year is definitely feasible. (By the way, if you have not subscribed to my blog, click here to subscribe now. )

However, sometimes I have doubts in my mind that stop me from doing the tasks I had mentioned. I still have doubts in my mind to create guest articles. Sometimes I doubt my capability to create great articles for other blogs (this is the part where I am focusing on whether I can do it or not). Focusing on my doubt kills my desire to take action.

By flicking the switch in my mind to focus on what needs to be done instead of doubting my capability, I instantly know what I need to do to get the results. I know that by doing what needs to be done, I am able to achieve greater results faster. When you cast your doubts aside and set your mind to achieve your desired goals, you are on the highway towards achieving your goals.

Parting Words

To move to the highway to achieve your goals at the speed of light, you have to change what you are focusing on right now. Imagine how much more you can achieve when you are constantly completing what needs to be done instead of walking in circles and doubting your capability. What do you think you are capable of when you are operating on the highway?

As always, I welcome your comments and I look forward to hearing from you in the comment section below.
