My Annual Review For Year 2011

Vincent Annual Review At HealthMoneySuccess

2011 is coming to an end and it is time to review on it. I don’t have a standard format for doing my review but I decided to adopt Chris Guillebeau’s way of doing his annual review.

I love simplicity and Chris’s way of doing his annual review fits just that.

I will review my year by thinking through what are the things that went well and what are the things that didn’t went well for me. I will also write about what I can do to improve on things that didn’t went well.

Things That Went Well In 2011

I had picked up many new skills and knowledge during the year of 2011 and I believe it is a great year. Here are some of the things that went well for me.

1. Running Regularly, Barefoot Running And Completed 2 Marathon

In terms of health and fitness wise, I am pretty happy with myself. I got myself into the habit of running regularly and I do a long run every weekend.

I also got into barefoot running. This is due to injuries that I had suffered during one of my long weekend run.

It seems like I couldn’t run injury free and I think that there is definitely an answer for this. I stumbled upon the book, Born To Run, by Christopher McDougall and picked up the idea of barefoot running.

I am still new to this concept of running barefoot or minimalist running and I am still learning as I go. One great benefit that I see now is that I am able to get rid of some of the niggling pain that occurs when I start to pile up the distance.

I am still exploring more on barefoot running and I will definitely write up some articles in this area.

Meanwhile, I had also completed 2 marathon for the year of 2011 and I beat my previous marathon timing that I got in 2010. Overall, it is pretty great and I aim to run faster and stay injury free for the year of 2012.

2. Productivity Level

Since I am working in a full time job, studying part time, working on my niche sites and HMS, I am stretched in terms of time and focus.

I don’t have much time to work on everything and I believe I need some help along the way.

I ended up hiring a VA (Virtual Assistant) from Virtual Staff Finder.

Hiring a VA freed up my time that I spend on my niche sites and I ended up with more time to work on other things.

With such a packed schedule, I need to make sure that my time management skill is top notch. I believe my time management skill had improved as a result and I actually wrote down the process that I use to maintain my productivity in an ebook that I will launch soon.

3. Travel

In terms of traveling, I went to Thailand and it was a great trip. I experienced a different culture over there and I would love to explore more.

I am thinking about going over to Thailand to stay for 3 weeks to explore more of the country and culture and it will definitely be a great experience.

I’m also traveling to Penang for a short getaway at year end too and I look forward to the trip.

4. Personal Learning

In terms of learning this year, I managed to get myself to read 19 books. Not as much as I would like (I aim to read at least 2 books per month), however it is still a pretty decent number.

I had covered books that with topics that such as personal development, business, marketing and even dog training.

Here are some of the better books that I had read this year and I hope you can find some interesting books that you want may want to read.

1. Personal Development For The Smart PeopleSteve Pavlina

2. Predictably Irrational – Dan Ariely

3. Millionaire Fastlane – MJ De Marco

4. Ready Fire Aim – Michael Materson

5. The Sticking Point – Jay Abraham

5. Created 2 Niche Sites

I had created another 2 niche sites in 2011. One of the niche sites is already making profits and it is something that I am happy about. All I need to do is to put in more effort on the site to turn it into a major site and increase the traffic.

What Didn’t Went Well In 2011?

I wouldn’t say 2011 is a bad year for me but I felt that I didn’t experience any major breakthrough.

The reason behind why I didn’t have any major breakthrough is because I feel too distracted by too many things in my life (working, studying, working on niche sites and blogging). I stretched my focus too thin and in the end there isn’t any significant breakthrough.

I am disappointed in the business area of my life. I planned to have an ebook launch this year but I didn’t manage to launch it out on time.

I have completed 90% of the ebook but it is not ready to launch yet since there are still some loose ends that I need to tie up. It seems like I will not be able to make the deadline.

So most probably I will only be able to get it launch by next year January.

Another thing that didn’t went well is one niche site of mine doesn’t seems to work. The site has not make any sales yet. The fault may be on my end since I didn’t put too much effort into that site and everything was outsourced.

It is also a niche that I wasn’t very interested in and hence I find it hard to work on it. A lesson for you – work on things that you are passionate/interested in to keep yourself motivated.

How Can I Make Year 2012 Better?

I already thought of something that I want to add into HMS. I would like to make things a little more transparent and list down my goals for 2012 at HMS.

I will add a goal page at HMS that list down my goals for 2012, so that my readers will keep me accountable. This will spur me to take consistent action and I hope that my action will be able to inspire others to do the same and keep working on their goals.

I will also be quitting my job in January to focus more on my internet business ventures and HMS. This is also my last year in University and I will put everything I have into HMS and my internet business ventures.

I may also work less on my niche sites with the help of my VA. I don’t want to create more niche sites and in fact, I would like to turn them into higher quality site. The tactic of having quantity over quality doesn’t appeal to me anymore and I aim to make more quality niche sites instead.

By cutting off many distractions and focusing my energy on the core things that I want to achieve will help me to get some major breakthrough that I want to see.

How About You?

2011 is coming to an end and I think it is a good time to do an annual review to think about the things that went well and things that didn’t went well in 2011.

How about you? What are some of the things that went well and things that didn’t went well in 2011? How are you going to make improvements in the year of 2012? Why not share your thoughts with me in the comment section below.

        Bonjour Vincent,
I love your website. I think 2011 was a good year for me. I read more than 70 books. Not going to bore you with the names. But apart from the books on library science (french) I read books by Dan Brown, Douglus Kennedy, Deniel Pennac, Eric Orsenna, Ian McEwan, David Mitchell and more.I did succeed in making my husband do yoga every morning. Now he owns his own photo studio. We went on vacation twice in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban . I went to France for two months. We took 2 sublets to cut the rental cost.
In 2012 I am looking forward to gain some weight, start writing book reviews, maybe movie reviews, start my violin lessons with a new teacher and hoping to help my husband to publish a book on photography at the end of the year. Friends are insisting me on translating books from French to English. I am hoping to start that soon.

        Wish me good luck.

    Hi Vincent,

I chanced upon this blog when I googled on “power of words” which landed on one of the post you had…

Anyway this is an awesome post! 19 books seemed pretty tough but you managed to do it! (I was about to say “I don’t think I can”, but after reading the previous post about words, I changed my mind :P)
    Great job!

Here’s wishing you a better 2012 ahead, greater things have yet to come! 🙂
Jia Bin´s last blog post ..Merry Christmas!

    Hi vin,
its always wonderful reading your piece,
honestly i planned a lot for 2011 but ended up not achieving much, i planned to publish a book but ended up writing one chapter of that book. The reasons are i dont have for myself, i wake up 4.45am everyday to go to work and come back home 8.00pm worn out.
In 2012 i want to get outb of this rat race syndrome and see if money can work for me instead of working for money. I was able to read only one book rich dad poor dad
Iam passionate about setting up an NGO about refocusing youths and will need your idea in this area
