Facing The Giants: Are You Really Giving Your Best?

What Is Your Best?

What is the best you can give to turn your life around, make that that million dollars or lose that 30 lbs? Sometimes we appear to say that we are giving our best but in reality we are not putting in our best effort to get what we want.

When you say that you are going to give your best yet you harbor thoughts that says it is too hard to accomplish something or it will take too much effort or time to do it, most likely you will not be able to give your best effort.

In the video clip above taken from Facing The Giants, the team dread the death crawl and it seems to them that 10 yards is the best that they can give. However the coach called up Brock, instructed him to give his best effort and Brock manage to cover almost the whole football field. The coach also blindfolded him so that Brock will not stop until he really gave his best and totally can’t take it anymore.

When someone is really committed into giving his best, unbelievable results happen. What you think that you can’t achieve (limiting beliefs) became possible when you give your best effort.

What you need to know after watching this video is that most of us are not really giving our best every day. There are limiting beliefs that stop us from giving our best. Many of us can say that we gave our best effort but we don’t really mean it when we say it.

Saying that you gave your best effort is easy and truly giving your best effort is hard. Make it a point to say what you mean. When you say that you are going to give your best effort, make it happen. Also remember that it isn’t possible to give your best when all you think about is how hard things is going to be.

Decide now to give your best everyday and be prepared to see unbelievable results happen.

**P.S** What do you think is holding you back from giving your best? Self doubt? Fear? Or any other factors? I would love to hear from you in the comment below.

  1. Great point about how most of us are not really giving our best. I think that’s especially true when it comes to sustained efforts. But imagine how much we can accomplish once we do.

  2. Vincent – good post. I think what it comes down to is that people are happy being lazy…ok, that’s a bit harsh, but I still think it’s somewhat true. A lot of people want change, but they don’t want to do the work or they expect the change to come to them. To make change you do have to put in effort….significant effort. I can attest to this myself. For too many years I really didn’t do anything and I wasn’t giving it my best. I’ve recently changed that attitude and now I’m finally seeing some progress.

  3. Just when you thought you could crawl no further they stuck a blindfold on you and lied to you about the distance…..it is quite amazing how much you can get out of one human if you push the person far enough!

We are far too likely to give up way too early, and overcoming that behaviour is one of the obstacles that lies in the way of ultimate success. Try and try again until you succeed is a mantra that few people adhere to.

    • Always trying and not giving up is the key to success. Most people can’t give up way too soon when they meet any obstacles and challenges. That may be the reason why they don’t see the results they always wanted.

Success is not a sprint, it is like a marathon and it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

  4. Hey Vincent!
Nice motivational post! I think you just have to keep it in the front of your mind with everything you do, and ask youself if you are doing the best possible task you can do right now.

    • Hey Diggy,

That reminds me of the 80/20 rule. Doing the best possible tasks that will reap the best rewards. 🙂

  5. The movie clips you’ve been inserting in your articles are great! I’ve seen Facing the Giants and it is a wonderful movie. Always do your best in whatever situation you may face.
