Rocky Balboa’s Lessons On Life

Rocky’s Life Lessons

I love the Rocky series. I had recently watched Rocky 1 to 6 and the movie is inspiring. This video was taken from Rocky 6 when Rocky is talking to his son about life. I am going to share with you some inspiring quotes taken from the video which teaches us something about life.

The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbow. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are … It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It ‘s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.

Life isn’t that easy and everyone have their fair share of obstacles and challenges. There will be times when things just don’t go smoothly for you and everything that can go wrong just went wrong. However these challenges, problems and obstacles can’t get you down if you don’t allow it.

Nobody can make you angry, hurt you or make you depress if you do not allow it. Donald Trump was almost bankrupt and came back many times richer. Lance Armstrong fought back cancer and went on to win more championship.

Both of them had faced challenges and obstacles but they decided that they do not allow life to beat them to their knees. They got hit hard but they don’t stop. They just kept on moving forward and that is why they are winners.

If you know how much you’re worth, then go out there and get what you ‘re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that.

Blaming is self sabotaging. You are not going to get anywhere in life if you have a habit of blaming others for what that had happen to you. Results are what we had personally created. If you are not happy with any part of your life, decide to change and change it.

Don’t blame others for your scenarios and no one owe you anything in life. Choosing not to blame others will also instill power to you. Which means you will not act like a victim and you have the power to turn your life around.

Until you start believing in yourself, you ain’t gonna have a life.

What you believe will become your reality. If you do not believe in yourself, most likely you will achieve mediocre results in whatever things that you do. When you believe in something, your mind will automatically search for evidence to support your belief.

If you believe that the iPhone is an awesome product, you will search for evidences to support this particular belief. You may start to find out more functions about the iPhone that is useful to you and the millions of useful apps that you can download.

However if you believe that the iPhone is a lousy product, most likely you will find out evidences that support this belief too. You may find that reception of the iPhone is lousy, the battery life is too short and the camera without a flash can’t really help you take a good picture.

Whatever you believe in will become your reality. So why not choose to believe in something that is positive and beneficial to you?

So what do you think about this video? Have you learn something about life from Rocky today? I would love to hear your comments and I will talk to you soon in the comment section below. 🙂

  1. I am not a great fan of Sylvester Stallone’s, but the Rocky stories are inspirational in their own right, I agree on that. Going forward, no matter how hard you get hit is definitely the way to become a winner. We are back to the dont quit easily concept here, and there is great merit in that. Inspiraional stuff, thank you for sharing!

    • Hey Ken,

There are lots of movies out there that are inspiring. Maybe I would do a list of them to share with you guys. 🙂

  2. I’ve always loved Rocky’s quotes and stories.
Makes you feel strong. And that part about believing in yourself, VERY TRUE: If you pay to win and you get beaten down, you have to remember the past successes and other times where it seemed grim but you somehow got through and made it. Remembering stuff like that gives a person hope, because no matter what it takes, if you really want it, you’ll get it.

    This quote I really liked:
“You, me or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It ’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.”

Rocky knows what it means to be at the bottom, he knows the what he’s talking about.

    • Hey Clinton,

I love that quote too. He really knows what he is talking about and Sylvester Stallone in real life really hits rock bottom before he made Rocky.

This quote really teaches us about how we can achieve success. Life really hit us hard and I see that people who are successful have their fair share of challenges. But they did not give up and just keep on going forward to get the results they want.

Persistence is definitely one of the key to success and Rocky really gave us a valuable lesson about life.

  3. Thanks for posting this article. I am so frustrated with struggling to search out relevant and intelligent commentary on this subject. Everyone nowadays goes to the terribly far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either one) everyone else in the world is wrong, or two that everyone but them doesn’t “really perceive” the situation. Thank you for your consise, relevant insight.

  4. Hey Vincent,

Yeah. Really love the character Rocky Balboa and I love the quote mentioned in the video the most. A very inspiring guy and as you know how the actor Sylvester Stallone got into fame, you will face the world with a different perspective. There’s a video that I found on youtube which I posted on my blog that Tony Robbins talks abt how the actor wrote the story of Rocky Balboa. Do go check it out and you will be more motivated to face life with a more determined meaning.

    • Hey Javier,

I saw that video too! It is inspiring to see how Sylvester Stallone shot up to fame and what he did to achieve his success. Totally inspiring!

  5. good article Vincent 😉
one more thing i might add that iv learned is that you have to know what you want and pay the price for it (hits)
and don’t whine that it is so hard and painfull after you have decided…

    greetz Alex

    • Hey Alex,

Most people want but do not dare to pay to price for it. That is why they failed to achieve. This is definitely a great lesson learned. 🙂

  6. I absolutely love Rocky Balboa and his quotes, I also loved the one from the first Rocky where he made reference to “if you hang out with coconuts you become a coconut” I loved it!

    Till then,

  7. Inspiring!
I hope everyone who is going through some tough time, watch this video.
“Believe in you yourself” seems the best advice a father can give to a son.

    • Hi Hwa,

“Believe in yourself ” is a great advice that can be given to anyone. It is too hard to achieve when one does not believe. 🙂
