Wow! I really really love your article,in fact I have read it a number of times. I am a CPA by profession and have served the industry for more than 25 years now. A month ago until now, I have been suffering from BURNOUT. I have read a lot of articles about the topic and finally, I have come into the conclusion that I am a victim. Reading your article gave me a sense of relief from the guilt. I felt bad when I felt that I have totally lost intererst on finance and accounting matters. Now, I realized that it is high time to shift career. I am a gym buff and have been coaching a number of gym goers out of passion. Now I know where to go...Thanks a lot and hope you drop me a line.....

Vincent,
I think the core of what you're saying rings true, but keep in mind that it is a bit idealistic. It's hard to quit a job that you hate when you're living hand to mouth.

I am not sure that I "hate" my business, but I am definitely bored with it so it is time to move on. I have made the commitment to give it up and move to a new country within a year, but it wasn't an easy decision to make.

First of all, I have long term customers that have supported me when I didn't really know what I was doing. Giving up my company, in some ways is letting them down. The problem is worse because I am living in Japan, where relationships are so important.

Also, I am almost 40 years old. Starting over is much more difficult than if I were in my 20s when I first left to Japan. Quitting when you have nothing to lose is not much of a sacrifice.

Another thing is that I am giving up a great secure income with lots of holidays and few work hours. If it was a lousy job with bad hours, I would have quit long ago. It would have been easy to quit. However, it is not so easy now.

Quitting a job is not easy, but if there is any advice that I can offer it is that, quitting gets harder the longer you wait. The best time to do anything is now.

Hi Helen,

It is great that you write down what you want to achieve in the near future and use what you have to do now as a stepping stone towards your future achievement. It is a good strategy. :)

Hi Car insurance guy,

That is what happen when you don't change and allow others to cause you to make changes. However it is something good for him because he finally got away from the job that he hate. :)

Cheers,
Vincent

A friend of mine worked a job he hated. He couldn't get himself to quit though, and was always miserable. Due to the economy his company tanked, and now he's living it up. Have to force change.

Sometimes, I am at loss between the things I really like to do and the things I have to do. Because it seems that the things I have to do owing to the benefits it may bring to me.Therefore I am doing and willing to do the things I have to do now. And as longs as I started it, I am more inclined to stick to it, cos I am used to it . I also thought about this topic before, and my attitude towards it is to love what I have to do and write down what I want to achieve in the near future.

Hi Vic,

Thanks for your compliments. It is great to see that you enjoyed this article. :)

Hi Dani,

I agree that balance is needed and not that everything that we hate to do can be avoided. But as what you had said, significant things like having a job that we dislike is something that we definitely need to stop doing. Thanks for the point. :)

Hi Cash Back,

People who are held back by fear is not going to achieve what they really want to achieve. I understand that it is hard to get out of our comfort zone but sometimes taking the leap may prove to be rewarding. If taking a huge leap is daunting, taking baby steps will be a better way to go. As long as you keep working on towards what you want and do not give up half way, you will definitely reach your destination.

Cheers,
Vincent
