Discover How This Impossible Dream Is Made Possible

I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.
Bertrand Russell

Mental Barriers

The above video remind us how Roger Bannister refuse to accept the belief that it is impossible to complete a mile under 4 minutes and finally achieved it. He completed a mile under 4 minutes which no body thought was possible because he relentlessly trained to achieve it without giving regards to the thoughts of others.

There are many times when we let down ourselves by listening too much to others. Others may had failed in their ventures and they will tell you that they had tried doing something that doesn’t work. The worst scenario is that we believe so strongly in them and adopt their negative mindset which create huge obstacles for ourselves.

Beliefs are not 100% true

I believe many of us will hear about running a business is hard, creating an online business is just a scam and the stock market is only for the rich. These are just beliefs of others that had previously failed and did not try again to make it work. Why am I so sure about it? Because I see others have created successful businesses, there are successful online business being created and there are also people who start out from nothing and got rich by investing in the stock market.

If you are procrastinating on doing something that you truly love and believe that it will work, why let others stop you from doing it? Others may not have even walk down the path that you intended to walk and they may just be telling you that it is not possible because they failed to achieve it or they are telling you what they have heard in the cafe. Can you even believe in the chatters that they had overheard in the cafe?

If you want to do something but others are telling you not to do it, first of all, look for successful evidences. If there are others who have walked down the path you intended to walk and succeeded, it means that what you plan on doing is possible. The second step you would need to do is to seek them out and learn from them. Tap into their brain and know what is the blueprint for their success. Their knowledge will help you to cut short your learning curve.

Parting Words

Even if you plan on doing something that no others had succeeded, such as the example of Roger Bannister, you can always try it out and see how it goes. If Thomas Edison and the Wright brothers have never tried to create the light bulb and build the air plane respectively, we will not have the luxury of having light in our house at night or traveling to other countries by plane.

Do not allow beliefs of others to stop you from doing what you want to do. If you want to know whether anything will work out, the only way for you to verify it is to take action and do it. I hope you pick up something from this article and the most important lesson of today is to remember that you are your biggest obstacle and choose carefully who to listen to.

    Hi car insurance guy,

    If they do not believe that they are capable of breaking records, then they will fail in their attempt. But the champions are the one who believe records are meant to be broken and that is why they are the champions.

    Cheers,
    Vincent

  2. You’ll find this to be a common thing among the most superior athletes. They never settle and are constantly breaking records people say are impossible because they believe in themselves more than they listen to others say what they cannot do.

    This is my first time I heard about the bumblebee story and I totally love the story. This really shows that we may achieve things that we would not have thought possible when we do not have negative beliefs to hold us back. Thanks for sharing this story with us Mark.

    Cheers,
    Vincent

  4. This reminds me of the bumblebee story. Anatomically, the bumblebee is not built to fly. But because it doesn’t know, it just flew.

    Sometimes, you need to just do it, give it your best shot, and your result will let you know whether it’s possible.

    Cheers~

    I agree with what you had said. We need to build positive beliefs and get rid of those that are limiting us. Limiting beliefs can really take a huge chunk of our potential away. Thanks for your comment. 🙂

    @Positively Present

    It is really inspiring and this story always remind me to build beliefs that can empower instead of limit us.

    @Srinivas Rao

    I believe our positive beliefs can help us to extract our maximum potential to help us achieve results in life. It is something that we need to pay attention to because of how powerful it is.

    @Randy

    Once we believe that we can’t achieve something, then we will not achieve it. It reminds me of the quote by Henry Ford, “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”

    Cheers,
    Vincent

    Wow this is a really nice and inspirational video. Roger Bannister broke the nations state of disbelief, and made it possible for those 955 other runners to believe as well! As a runner I really enjoy hearing about these amazing athletes! They are proof that it really is mind over matter. You are right, the mentality you have going into something can have drastic effects on your quality. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, or that you shouldn’t do something. Let their words fuel the flame for you to go out and prove them wrong!

    The Roger Banister story is such a great one that we can all learn from. Beliefs are such an incredible thing to explore because when we realize that they are not 100% true you start find incredible power in yourself.

  8. Wow. This is really inspiring! I’ve actually never heard about this story before and I was truly moved by it. Thanks for sharing it on your site.

  9. Hey Vincent, this is a very inspiring post. I heard about the Roger Bannister story from a Les Brown speech before and thought it was very inspirational. While beliefs help us live our life in a more organized manner, we need to be sure when beliefs limit us and pick the ones which empower instead. Thanks for the great post!
